CARHARTT WIP - THE LONG WAY FROM A WORKERS' LABEL TO A STREETWEAR BRAND

Carhartt WIP - hardly any other brand has done more to establish streetwear in European urban spaces than Carhartt WIP. Starting as an American workwear company, the brand developed into a European streetwear icon. Carhartt was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1889 by Hamilton Carhartt, who attracted attention with professional overalls for American railway workers made of jeans and canvas. Both materials are still the epitome and trademark of the streetwear brand today. The label started with 4 sewing machines and 5 employees and developed over the years into one of the most important work- and streetwear manufacturers in the world. Only Levis and Dickies can probably prove a comparable historical path. More than 100 years later Edwin Faeh founded Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP). Based on the legendary Carhartt workwear, the brand develops its own collections, which adapt the original authentic characteristics and combine them with various subcultures. WIP recognised the needs of the urban lifestyle community and quickly established itself in subcultures such as skateboarding, hip-hop and graffiti. Over the years, a constantly growing network of different cultural industries has developed. The label also founded its own skate team and music department. Carhartt WIP's collections were well received in the streetwear culture, resulting in a number of collabos with like-minded labels like A.P.C., Converse, Fragment Design, Junya Watanabe, Nike and Vetements, as well as music icons like Fela Kuti, Underground Resistance and Vestax.

CARHARTT WIP - CLASSIC BASICS AND NEW STYLES

At the end of the 1980s, Clocker and Sprayer brought the warm and well stocked Carhartt WIP clothing to the streets. The authentic streetwear pieces quickly became known among graffiti sprayers, MCs and fans of the urban sports scene. Apostrophized as a new trend brand, it didn't take long before Carhartt WIP workwear was hanging in the closets of rap stars and hip-hoppers. Over the years, the new Carhartt WIP look has thus become part of urban subcultures. Thanks to its mix of classic basics and new styles, Carhartt WIP always hits the nerve of the time unerringly and effortlessly. The label convinces with outstanding design, exceptional quality, durability and comfort. WIP has developed into one of the leading brands in the European streetwear scene and with its regular new collections it ensures that it will remain so forever!

CARHARTT WIP - MORE THAN JUST A STREETWEAR LABEL

WIP is much more than a leading streetwear label. Even in its early days, Carhartt WIP was strongly committed to supporting artists, musicians and athletes. They not only provided their own skate team and music department, but also promoted the European skateboard and BMX scene. Thus the label regularly helps to maintain skateparks in urban areas, but also to improve them. This commitment was not only well received in the subcultures concerned, which is why WIP is also very popular outside these cultures. In the WAVE online shop you will find numerous Carhartt WIP articles.
