The Italian luxury brand Stone Island was founded in 1982 by the designer Massimo Osti as a second line next to his main C.P. Company collection. The designer's family has been deeply rooted in the fashion industry since the 19th century. The brand was able to make a name for itself primarily through its special dyeing techniques and unique, unconventional surface treatments. In the meantime, the Italian label is one of the pioneers in innovative design combined with high-tech materials. STONE ISLAND - PROGRESS THROUGH RESEARCH

Already in its early days, Stone Island developed a special fabric called Tela Stella, which was originally used for the production of truck tarpaulins. This special material enabled the Italian label to design both sides of the fabric in different colors and so a first collection of seven jackets was created. Already at this time the founder of Stone Island was at least 10 years ahead of the competition. This focus on textile research should remain until today and take on even greater dimensions. Research, experimentation and functionality are the parameters that Stone Island has always worked to. Thus, the label tries to redefine the concept of sportswear through research on fibers and fabrics as well as innovative design. And so it has achieved a unique status through continuous color experiments and has developed more than 60,000 different color formulations over the years.
